Hong Kong Day Trip Plan, May 17, 2025
Published:
On May 17, 2025, I had about nine hours alone in Hong Kong between flights and trains, and I planned them around Victoria Harbour and the city’s richest commercial districts.

Schedule
- Land at Hong Kong International Airport at 5:00 AM, traveling alone
- Leave on the 8:00 PM high-speed train from West Kowloon, arriving at the station by 5:00 PM
- Time to explore: about 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Goals
- See Victoria Harbour and find landmarks tied to Li Ka-shing
- Focus on Hong Kong’s luxury and business districts, and drop everything else
Luggage
- Store bags at the left-luggage counter in Airport Express Hong Kong Station (Central)
- Reason: it sits in the city center, so I can pick the bags up nearby in the evening and continue to West Kowloon
Route
- Airport → Airport Express → Hong Kong Station (drop luggage)
- Walk to Central Pier → Star Ferry → Tsim Sha Tsui (harbour views)
- Tsim Sha Tsui → Harbour City (optional)
- MTR back to Central → IFC Mall → Pacific Place in Admiralty
- Back to Hong Kong Station for luggage → Kowloon Station → walk to West Kowloon high-speed rail station
Getting around
- Navigation: Google Maps (main), Citymapper, HKeMobility (live bus arrivals)
- Payment: Octopus card, bought at the airport or any MTR station
- MTR first, buses as backup, Star Ferry for sightseeing
To verify
- Left-luggage hours, fees, and current fares were not checked in real time. Confirm them on the MTR website before the trip.
- West Kowloon high-speed rail usually does not require check-in three hours ahead. Follow the ticket instructions and arrive later to gain more sightseeing time.
