The piece connects field measurements in Port Aransas with the broader remote-sensing problem: point samples of salinity, temperature, and turbidity are accurate but sparse; satellite observations can help fill in the bay-scale picture. Our proposed direction is an AI-enabled dashboard that estimates chlorophyll and turbidity across Texas bays, from Galveston to Port Aransas, and helps make coastal water-quality signals usable for oyster farms, beach managers, conservation teams, and residents.

For me, the important part is that “AI for Earth science” becomes concrete here. It is not a generic model demo. It is satellite data, local water-quality measurements, field campaigns, and operational decisions on a coast where storms, dredging, freshwater pulses, and sediment affect real people.
